AV Case Study: Grandeur in Clyde

The Vel Group brings subcontinental luxury to South East Melbourne, seasoned with Bose Professional audio.

Grandeur in Clyde is the kind of venue that makes you wonder why no one built it sooner. Sitting in Melbourne’s fast-growing south-east, the modern reception centre fills a clear gap. Until now, locals wanting a proper function space with contemporary design and proper facilities had to head into the city. Senthuran ‘Sam’ Velautham and the Vel Group decided that was no longer good enough.

“We noticed that there wasn’t a contemporary-looking reception centre of banquet hall in this area,” Sam explains. “It’s a gap in the market that we’ve filled.” The family already ran a successful Sri Lankan and Indian grocery and catering business in nearby Carrum Downs. Eight or nine years ago the Vel Group bought land in Clyde North, correctly reading the coming population boom. Today the complex includes the reception centre, a grocery store, and a restaurant with resto-bar balcony.

Officially open from mid-2025, Grandeur in Clyde was conceived mainly for weddings and birthday parties. The south asian community saw the possibilities before Vel did. Sports events, musical concerts, corporate functions and school graduations have all already taken place. The space transforms easily – one week it looks like a stadium, the next a formal ballroom.

The stage enjoys a 6x3m LED wall, Bose Professional AMM Series PA and a mesmirising LED dancefloor.

SOUND MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

That versatility rests heavily on the installed AV. Sam is clear: the Bose Professional system is a game-changer. Clients no longer need to bring in their own (sometimes dubious) portable PA, spend hours setting up and packing down, or accept patchy coverage. “Everything is in there. They just need to come in with their mixing console and connect to that and fly with it.”

Previous venues left a lasting impression… usually a bad one. Portable PAs created hot spots at the front and dead zones at the back. Conversation was impossible near the speakers and inaudible further away. “If you’re seated at the front, you can’t hold a conversation; while if you’re at the back, you can’t hear the speeches.”

Ceiling-mounted Bose Professional DesignMax loudspeakers solved both problems – providing even coverage and sonic detail. “The quality of the audio is most notable in the detailed sound,” Sam notes. “Being in-ceiling speakers, every seat is enjoying the same sound – it’s not loud in the front and soft in the back.” Speech remains intelligible; music retains punch without overwhelming conversation at the tables or the bar.

As far as I’m concerned the Bose Professional sound system has already paid for itself, thanks to all the positive feedback we hear from our clients

The restaurant and grocery store don't miss out: Aryka installed Bose Professional DesignMax in-ceiling speakers and subs, supplemented by EdgeMax where needed.

FOR THE SAKE OF CLARITY

Arun Sharma of Aryka AV Solutions guided the client from the onset. An audio specialist who designs, installs and commissions, Arun saw the original modest plan and raised the aspiration.

He steered them to Bose Professional for its combination of brand recognition, clarity and controlled coverage. “Bose Professional provides the clarity and the punch they were looking for.” The DesignMax in-ceiling series delivers even coverage; PowerShare amplifiers and ControlSpace processing provides the DSP and flexibility. Audio zoning keep levels appropriate.

If the Bose Professional in-ceiling solution was meticulously designed for coverage and clarity, the dancefloor system needed some focus and oomph to keep the party rocking well into the night. A combination of Bose Professional AMM112 full-range loudspeakers and ground-stacked AMM115 subs deliver in spades.

Wesco Anixter’s engineers assisted with the loudspeaker design, heat maps, and practical support. “They helped me design the entire space, from the start of the project through to delivery and commissioning,” Arun says.

Aryka AV Solutions specified Bose Professional DesignMax DM6C ceiling speakers with DM8S subwoofers for full-range distributed coverage of the reception centre.

GROCERY STORE & RESTAURANT

Arun also convinced the owners to extend the same aspirational thinking downstairs. Background music in the grocery encourage shoppers to linger; the restaurant needs a warmer, softer atmosphere while the resto-bar balcony wants higher energy. Low ceilings in parts of the restaurant led to EdgeMax loudspeakers that fit the architecture while maintaining coverage. “There’s no doubt that the Bose Professional system in the grocery store helps people to relax and browse. It helps create a pleasant environment and shoppers stay longer.”

Control is deliberately simple for venue staff – an iPad app with master-level faders. Bose Professional-mediated remote monitoring allows Aryka to diagnose issues before the client even notices.

The investment felt steep at first. But the reward arrives every time guests dance into the early hours or leave singing the praises of the sound. “As far as I’m concerned the Bose Professional sound system has already paid for itself, thanks to all the positive feedback we hear from our clients,” Sam concludes.

Aryka’s approach is straightforward: understand how people actually use the space, then engineer an audio experience that supports the business for years. At Grandeur in Clyde, that philosophy has turned a new venue into a destination.
