Zoom Focuses on AI
Virtual Zoomtopia 2025 highlights AI advances
Zoom used its scaled-down “Zoomtopia 2025” event to showcase new artificial intelligence (AI) features that strengthen its Workplace platform and help it stay competitive with rivals. Despite the shorter, virtual-only format, the company delivered meaningful updates, highlighting the upcoming launch of Zoom AI Companion 3.0 and fresh integrations that expand its reach across widely used collaboration tools, according to GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.
Gregg Willsky, Principal Analyst, Enterprise Technology & Services at GlobalData, comments, “Presumably Zoom is investing less on lavish events and more on its platform. That has been money well spent. Zoom has rapidly accumulated AI features, changing the fundamental nature of the platform to keep pace with rivals such as Microsoft, Cisco, and RingCentral.”
The marquee announcement of Zoomtopia was the planned November 2025 release of Zoom AI Companion 3.0, the upgraded digital assistant that has become an integral part of the Zoom Workplace platform. AI Companion 3.0 is most noteworthy for incorporating agentic AI.
Another key update is Zoom’s growing connections with other platforms. Its note-taking feature will soon cover meetings in Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, and Cisco Webex. In October 2025, a native AI Companion experience will launch in Slack, followed by Microsoft Teams. By December, Zoom will also link AI Companion with ServiceNow’s Now Assist Agents to support contact center teams.
Willsky continues, “Through linkages with other platforms, Zoom is converting the Workplace platform from an island of collaboration into a centralized hub. Zoom enables users to get work accomplished much more rapidly across the platforms they use regularly and thereby creates much stickier relationships with them.”
Zoom will roll out a business-focused update in January 2026, adding agentic AI to the prospecting feature in its sales intelligence tool, Zoom Revenue Accelerator. The AI will identify the right prospects, reach out at optimal times, engage leads via personalized emails and texts, and schedule meetings, helping sales teams “build pipeline while you sleep.”
Willsky concludes, “By continuing to regularly augment the platform while broadening the types of customers it serves – both consumer and business – in addition to establishing associations with other platforms, Zoom is poised to continue its ascent.”
