ClearOne has been awarded a new patent on technology that automates the mapping of data streams from at least one local video camera onto at least one remote display in a video conference.

On December 20, 2016, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office issued United States Patent number 9,525,846 entitled “Method and Apparatus for Negotiating Video Camera and Display Capabilities in a Video Conferencing Environment.”

The techniques described in the patent help simplify video conferencing when dealing with multiple data streams and a single layout. Without the ability to automatically negotiate placement of video on a remote display, setup is typically done manually, during the call, or pre-configured by the system installer or administrator in a fixed way for a set of systems. Applications of this patent could include telepresence, virtual reality suites, or surveillance applications involving remote monitoring of multiple video feeds from cameras placed at different locations on drone aircraft or mobile personnel.

The new patent joins ClearOne’s 100+ patents and pending patent applications covering multiple new technologies in the fields of audio and video processing, audio and video streaming, and communication technologies.
