CLEARONE BRINGS TELEMEDICINE CAPABILITIES TO CHINA HOSPITAL
ClearOne’s Collaborate Pro teleconferencing solution and cloud-based Spontania video collaboration service has been integrated to provide new telemedicine capabilities at Jiangsu People’s Provincial Hospital in Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu Province in The People’s Republic of China. The hospital is by far the largest general hospital in Jiangsu, designated Level Three Class A, and plays a major role in advancing medical education and research in addition to providing patient care.
According to David Wang, ClearOne Associate Vice President, APAC, local Jiangsu integrator Newway installed the cost-effective Collaborate Pro system to enable large scale surgery consultation with cardiovascular and cerebrovascular clinicians located at 150 hospitals throughout the province.
“Telemedicine is the future of healthcare,” Wang said, “and ClearOne’s teleconferencing solutions are helping to bring that future to China’s hospitals to improve communication and patient outcomes. With the Collaborate Pro system and our Spontania cloud-based video collaboration service, the hospital can now host conference calls with hundreds of attendees in different locations. Those participants can use PCs, hardline telephones, mobile devices, or TVs with cameras and microphones to join the conversation, making this an affordable BYOD system to communicate with a large number of doctors, even if every single one is at a different location.”
When envisioning the project, the hospital determined it did not want to make a large investment in hardware, leading the way for a cloud-based solution that can utilise any internet-connected communication device as an endpoint. Newway then held a demo of the ClearOne solution, highlighting the complete media collaboration solution that provides video conferencing, audio conferencing and instant sharing of high-quality images and videos.
Another major requirement was that the installation not disrupt daily hospital operations in any way, which was possible because of the limited physical infrastructure needed to implement the Collaborate Pro system. With a single ClearOne Collaborate 900, a ClearOne Beamforming Microphone Array installed in a conference room, a ClearOne Converge Pro DSP mixer, five ClearOne Collaborate 300s and 12 ClearOne CHAT 150 speakerphones, the hospital became a telemedicine powerhouse with minimal construction visibility.
According to Mr. Yang, Director of the Information Office at Jiangsu Provincial People’s Hospital, the implementation of ClearOne’s leading video and audio conferencing solutions was so successful that it has already led to additional installations in other prefecture hospitals.
“We needed a communications solution that would accommodate hundreds of clinicians joining the same meeting, even those from the smallest hospitals,” Mr. Yang said. “ClearOne and Newway have delivered a cost effective, flexible and easy to use solution that delivers exactly that. We have recently purchased an additional 14 Collaborate Pro 300 solutions to be installed within selected prefecture hospitals to further expand and enhance our telemedicine capabilities.”
The first-class telemedicine system is allowing clinicians to quickly and easily arrange collaborations in real-time, regardless of participants’ locations, and to share and discuss high-quality digital subtraction angiography (DSA) surgical images along with patients’ records and case histories. In addition to teleconferencing for surgical consultations, this installation expanded the hospital’s education capabilities by deploying Spontania Classroom, a digital learning environment that provides up to 100 simultaneous participants the ability to view up to four independent video streams.
Mr. Yang added, “ClearOne’s AV Solution, expertly installed by Newway, empowers us to provide timely consultation, diagnosis and treatment of major diseases for patients in all of the province’s hospitals.”
