EPSON LAUNCHES NEW 4K PRO-UHD PROJECTOR RANGE

By

1 April 2019

When’s 4K not 4K and when are you kinda pleased that it isn’t? Allow us to explain: Epson has unveiled its new 4K PRO-UHD projector range, consisting of the EH-TW8400, EH-TW9400 and EH-TW9400W all with a 3LCD design and HDR that produce stunning pictures (we had a preview in the last week of March and it’s impressive).
‘4K PRO-UHD’ is an umbrella term Epson has coined that comprises a suite of technologies that power their new family of projectors. The technology is a philosophical push to give home theatre installers and enthusiasts the best image without sacrificing brightness, all at an affordable price point. So, since you ask (and to speak to our opening line) – 4K PRO-UHD isn’t native 4K Epson (the 4K PRO-UHD range uses a new version of Epson’s take on pixel shifting technology). Instead the new range deploys a combination of dedicated hardware processors that allows the projectors to produce a knock-out image – the equal of many a pricier 4K native projector – for a starting price of $3999. The key reason is brightness. A 4K 3LCD panel takes a lot of grunt to get the equivalent brightness of an HD panel. Bulking up the light source to compensate is comparatively expensive. Epson should know, because it has a range of 4K native large-format commercial projectors – Epson has the 4K technology, it has the lenses, it’s done the R&D, and it’s made the decision in the home theatre market that it’ll invest in 4K PRO-UHD.
The key technology underpinning 4K PRO-UHD is the pixel shifting, which has moved from being a software derived jiggle to now residing in the hardware. The new pixel shifting tech now deliver an even brighter, higher quality, HDR experience that also allows the projectors to be used outside of a dedicated home theatre room. All of these quality improvements have come as a result of Epson’s decision to move away from software processing within the projectors to now using three, dedicated, high-powered hardware processors. Here each processor is solely dedicated to a key task – one for image processing, one for resolution enhancement and one for HDR processing. This allows the projector to always perform to the very best of its ability, without sharing resources or processing power and without interruption to signal or image quality. In turn these stunning new projectors are able to produce images with incredible colour, brightness, clarity, accuracy and vibrancy that need to be seen to be believed.
Epson 4K PRO-UHD projectors boast an exceptionally wide colour gamut, HDR (High Dynamic Range) and 100% balanced colour brightness. The range was specifically designed so that movies can be shown the way they were meant to be seen — on the big screen, with no rainbow effect creating an exceptionally immersive viewing experience.
