Coolux GmbH , the creators of the Pandoras Box product family, is the latest company to present a “revolutionary” new product for real-time tracking and projection-mapping applications. The system is based on coin-sized ID Tags that can be easily attached to set pieces, costumes or any other part of a tracking setup. The tiny gadgets can be fitted with button cell batteries with enough power to last over 10 hours. Each of the tags can be addressed with a unique ID, which opens up the possibility of up to 256 different unique IDs being tracked in real-time within a single setup. One individual tag has two LEDs onboard and can have between one to three additional infrared LEDs attached to it. Therefore tracking people or objects this way is achieved using a purely optical transmission system, thus avoiding the potential pitfalls of radio control-based setups. Applications include interactive projections, camera automation, stage tracking and lighting control.
