Glow Church is a contemporary Australian church founded on the Gold Coast by Pastors Joel and Ellen Cave. The church has grown steadily, expanding to multiple locations across Australia, United Kingdom, South Korea, and America. Clear messaging, communication, and engaging worship experiences have always been important elements of church services at Glow. To help deliver these elements consistently, technology becomes a practical requirement.

AT THE FOREFRONT

Forefront Productions first worked with Glow when they provided them with an Adamson IS7 line array for its Melbourne campus. They now reunite, as Glow takes its next steps in upgrading the sound reinforcement at its Gold Coast campus. A decision was made to gradually convert existing campuses to Adamson as the need and opportunities arose. “When we heard the Melbourne Adamson system against the existing Gold Coast campus system, the difference was like night and day. It was an easy decision,” says Pastor Joel Cave. “The difference in quality was immediately noticeable. Previously there were aspects that were muddy, with little separation between musicians and vocalists. Now there’s the warmth of the bottom end and vocal clarity both cutting through the mix. Each vocalist and musician is sitting in the mix right where you want them, and easily distinguishable from one another. The lead vocals now cut through with ease, like a hot knife through butter.”

The flexibility and scalability of the Adamson install means the same system can be deployed to small or large campuses with consistent results. CMI Audio, the Australian distributor of Adamson, partnered with Forefront to design and offer technical support. Brian Vayler, CMI’s House of Worship Solutions Manager, worked closely with Forefront’s Matt Wever to deliver the final system design. CMI Audio provided Forefront with additional inventory to install a full-scale demonstration system and temporary loan equipment while the required system was held up in transit. “The worldwide challenges of equipment supply in our industry are ongoing. You can’t always obtain the products desired for a job in a reasonable timeframe,” said Forefront’s Managing Director, Nick Burns.

ADAMSON SYSTEM SPEC

The Gold Coast campus’ Adamson system now consists of two main left/right arrays with eight IS7 per side, and two out-fill arrays comprising of six IS7 per side, and was designed as such to eliminate the need for stage lip front-fill. Rounding out the bottom end is the Adamson IS119 sub, where six have been placed in an array under the front of the stage. Forefront’s audio system designer, Matt Wever, states: “The IS119 is a powerful sub with very musical sonic characteristics. In this case, the number of sub elements were installed to provide controlled coverage and consistency throughout the space rather than to achieve bone rattling bottom end.”

Driving the system are Lab.gruppen D Series power amps with integrated Lake Processing. Matt adds, “One of the unique and cost-efficient characteristics of the Adamson iS7 series is that you can power up to 12 speaker elements with a single amp. This means that for a growing church, or one expanding into a bigger venue, it’s very cost effective as you’re able to add more speaker elements without having to purchase more amps.”

Forefront has been prominent in the house of worship landscape for many years with its unique 360° ethos of design, planning, implementation, training, and support. Pastor Joel Cave finishes by saying, “when we made the decision to work exclusively with Forefront across all our campuses, we had some goals that were good in theory. Our experience has been that they weren’t just good in theory. This has been better than we could have imagined.”
