Good Shepherd, Great Outcome
Good Shepherd Catholic School has installed a impressive technology focal point for its flock.
Good Shepherd Catholic School in suburban Perth, has transformed its multipurpose hall with the installation of an Aurora LED display. The upgrade from an outdated projector to a state-of-the-art LED screen has addressed visibility challenges, enhanced versatility, and opened up new possibilities for the space.
LONG HALL
Ben Bova, of Millennium Security, has been providing IT support for Good Shepherd for over a decade. He recalls, “The hall is a large multipurpose space, used for everything from gym classes to assemblies and large meetings. However, the old projector struggled in the bright environment due to high windows and glass panels on the roof.”
As a central hub for the school, the hall required a display solution that could deliver exceptional brightness, accommodate diverse uses, and withstand the test of time. After exploring various options, including projectors and video walls, the school decided on the Aurora LED display.
STAY BRIGHT
Key factors in selecting the Aurora LED display were its brightness, serviceability, and long-term value. “One of the biggest considerations was the brightness,” says Ben. “The Aurora display runs at about 60% brightness and is still brighter than any TV or projector. It’s perfectly suited for a bright, open room like this.”
The modular nature of the Aurora display also proved advantageous. Ben explains, “With an LED screen, if multiple pixels fail, you can use a suction pump to replace the module and send it for servicing. This is far more efficient than replacing entire panels in a video wall setup.”
Another critical factor was the warranty. The Aurora display comes with a four-year warranty on its panels, ensuring peace of mind for the school.

RIGHT PITCH
When choosing the display’s pixel pitch, the team considered the room’s size and typical viewing distances. “It’s not a very high-definition panel, but for the large space, it works perfectly,” says Ben. “Close up, you can see the pixels, but from the back of the room, everything is clear. The focus was on functionality rather than achieving ultra-HD resolution, which wasn’t necessary for this environment.”
PLUG IN
The Aurora display is easy to operate, integrating seamlessly with the school’s technology infrastructure. “The screen is connected to a controller with an optical HDMI link to a cabinet,” explains Ben. “There’s a permanent PC in the cabinet, along with a Barco ClickShare wireless presentation system and additional HDMI inputs. This setup allows users to either connect directly via HDMI or share content wirelessly with ease.”
The intuitive system has made the hall more accessible to both internal staff and external users. “With the ClickShare, guests can simply plug in a button or use the app, making it straightforward to share their content,” adds Ben.
HIGH VISIBILITY
Renae Butler, Good Shepherd Catholic School’s Assistant Principal, highlights the transformative effect of the new display: “The installation of the screen in our school hall has enabled us to host events with a massive display that is bright, efficient, and large enough to cater for any audience. Whether it’s professional development days, PowerPoint presentations, movie nights, or gym classes, the screen’s versatility is unmatched.”
She adds, “The screen is extremely visible no matter the time of day or weather, overcoming the limitations of our previous setup. It’s simple to use, easy to maintain, and an impressive feature that has enhanced our ability to hire the hall for external events.”
FUTURE MODEL
The Aurora LED display at Good Shepherd Catholic School demonstrates how thoughtful technology investments can transform educational spaces. By addressing specific needs and prioritising long-term value, the school has set a new benchmark for versatility and functionality in its facilities. As Ben Bova succinctly puts it, “This solution isn’t just about meeting today’s requirements – it’s about preparing the school for the future.”
