Review: Wolfvision VZ-2.UHD

It’s fair to say that Wolfvision is the first name in professional document cameras. Wolfvision’s optics are first class; its gear handles the rough ’n’ tumble of public lectures theatres and classrooms; they’re easy to use; and its classroom solutions are well supported.

It’s also interesting to note that the way that classrooms are currently designed, document cameras are as relevant now as they were back in the days when lab-coated professors were allowed to smoke a pipe and eat an egg and lettuce sandwich while delivering a lecture.

The latest from Wolfvision is the affordable VZ-2.UHD. As the name suggests, it packs a 4K camera with 24 x zoom – half of which is optical – and the build is solid enough to provide judder-free operation.

The VZ-2.UHD offers a couple of innovative features worth highlighting. The camera itself can rotate up to 192 degrees. It allows the unit to double as a webcam when you’re not pointing it at an object or document. In fact, you can swivel it all the way over to point at the audience if so desired.

Of course, its primary job is as a visualiser, and the integral LEDs are handy in this regard, evenly covering the designated bench space for a better image regardless of the ambient lighting.

This device is easy to drive, largely thanks to the neat display GUI on the top. It’s worth noting that the VZ-2.UHD is also designed to integrate with your interactive whiteboard and, indeed, by downloading an app, can even be remotely controlled from your IWB, if that’s how you like to roll.

All the expected ins and outs are present and correct, including a network port that allows you to remotely monitor and update your VZ-2 fleet via Wolfvision’s vSolution Link Pro software.

The VZ-2.UHD is built well, priced well and ready to occupy Wolfvision’s customary position at the front of the classroom.
