Upon opening in last September, the 420-room Hilton Jinan South Hotel & Residences became the first international hotel to welcome guests in Jinan South, in the heart of what is known as China’s “Spring City.”

Along with the luxury guest experience, the hotel’s early plans included more nearly 2700sqm of meeting and banquet space, including 10 multi-function conference rooms with 4K video support for live presentations. With a goal of making these rooms available for booking by the end of 2016, the hotel sought collaboration tools that would invite interoperability, eliminate single points of failure, provide a clean look and feel, and support exceptional, high-resolution audio-visual quality.

According to Cliff Wong, Sales Director, South China House of Technology International Limited (SCHOT), the key challenge was setting up interoperability between the three multi-function halls.

“Each multi-function hall required independent signal switching, but at the same time we had to guarantee signal transmission between the three space,” said Mr. Wong. “Many collaboration vendors offer only a matrix for transmission, and when there a failure or defect it affects presentations and lectures in other conference rooms on the same system.”

To work around these concerns, SCHOT opted for Atlona to support all switching and distribution needs. Conference rooms 1-4 and 6 are served by the Atlona AT-UHD-PRO3-44M, which facilitates matrix switching across different spaces with independent room control.  The complete system includes multiple other Atlona collaboration solutions, including the AT-UHD-CLSO-824 for local matrix switching; and multiple transmitters and receivers from the HDVS including the AT-HDVS-150-TX-WP wallplate switcher.

Mr. Wong adds that the convergence of multiple Atlona products and third-party control solutions helped to simplify and accelerate the overall AV integration to meet the hotel’s deadline, and has brought great convenience to businesses and guests using the various spaces.

“Atlona’s HDVS products are compact and use a single cable to transmit network, infrared control, audio and video signals, plus PoE power,” said Mr. Wong. “Their plug and play functionality and interoperability with supporting systems bring exceptional value to everyone involved.”

Overall system support for HDMI plus network control, 7.1 audio and 4K video have proven beneficial to users. As Mr. Wong notes, many collaboration system remain focused on legacy analog technology at a time when more users are eager to take advantage of today’s high-resolution formats for dynamic presentations.

“The main goal of this project, was to fulfil the trend of 4K applications taking shape in the AV industry,” said Mr. Wong. “And since this is a new project with forward-looking designs, it is far more conducive overall to future expansion and system upgrades that support emerging UHD/HDR formats in the future.”
