Canadian company Matrox believes firms switching to 4K displays are also looking for compatible KVM extenders in order to secure workstations in a separate location from the monitors. Benefits include easier system access for IT maintenance in addition to reduced fan noise, heat emissions, and electrical interference in the workplace. The Matrox Avio KVM extenders are designed for maximizing performance while minimizing deployment cost. Avio transmitters and receivers are unique in their ability to send uncompressed keyboard, mouse, stereo analogue audio, USB 2.0 device, and HD, 2K, or 4K video signals up to 4 km over a single fibre-optic cable. Avio is equipped to transmit 4K video at 30 Hz over fibre through its dual-link DVI connectivity. For image-processing applications that require a higher refresh rate, two Avio transmitter/receiver pairs can be combined to drive 4K at 60Hz. A 10Gbps lag-free transmission provides smooth video playback.
